Halo (Master chief Collection)

Time: 7:00pm

Type of Media: Video game

Genre: Sci-fi

Title: Halo Master Chief Collection

Duration: NA

I played this game on my Xbox One (microsoft) and it was the game I got with my console, I was always a huge fan of Halo so buying this game was a nostalgia trip since it consists of Halo 1 HD remake Halo 2 HD remake as well as Halo 3 and 4. They also announced they will be remaking ODST which I am very excited for.

When I was younger Halo 3 was a game that I played very much to the point where I was semi competitive and I was always a huge fan but the idea of the story always fascinated me about an Alien race combining arms (Covenant) in order to annihilate life for their gods, due to believing that it will send them on the great journey (Heaven).

This collection focuses on Master Chiefs story who is one of the most iconic video game characters to date as well as characters like Mario and Sonic, he is a badass 7 foot tall man in a suit of armour which has a energy shield around it as well as a HUD (heads up display) that showcases ammo count as well as which gun and how much is in the clip.

They released the Halo 1 HD remake on the tenth year anniversary so playing this wasn’t a whole new experience besides the better graphics due to it being on Xbox One over 360 but it was still a greatly enjoyable experience, the missions were engaging, the enemies challenging and the game play mechanics flawless.

Halo 2 HD remake on the other hand was a whole new experience and the graphics were beyond phenomenal with new sound effects and the cut-scenes getting a huge new remaster which looked breathtaking. It really showcases how far video games have come in the last ten years.

Halo 3 hasn’t had a HD remake yet due to it not having a 10 year anniversary yet but the game still felt the exact same as it was with a few additional settings you can change like scoring which means if you do something impressive in game it gives you points for it allowing you to try and reach the par challenge which will unlock an achievement for every individual mission.

It also added in new features allowing you to do all the multiplayer features of every game on the disc and giving Halo 2 a few new add ons like a Mongoose (Quad bike) that the fans loved having two machine guns at the front giving it offensive capabilities which it didn’t before, one of the reasons fans loved it was because by comparison to the other vehicles it was just so useless, as well as the name being a piss take.

Overall i’d give the game a 10/10 I am bias due to being a huge fan but I still think it was an amazing experience which I enjoyed every second of. And I can’t wait to see what Bungie do next.

Avengers Age of Ultron

Time: 7:00pm

Type of Media: Film

Genre: superhero/action

Title: Avengers Age of Ultron

Duration: 141 mins

I watched this film  on release with my Dad at the Trafford center cinema after buying lots of snacks like popcorn and hot dogs. The film kickstarts with a badass action sequence of the badass superhero team “Avengers” slaughtering Hydra agents which we were introduced to in the first Captain America film.

The first few minutes of footage also introduce us to two special characters known as Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch who start out by assisting Ultron kill Iron Man they wanted him to kill Tony Stark because they held a vendetta against him because in their childhood they were bombed by one of his bombs that didn’t go off.

I’m not sure if they approached the Artificial intelligence villain Ultron as a comedic character or they just made him ridiculously sadistic, because most people in the cinema laughed at some of the things he said, personally I think he is just really sick and twisted and is enjoying it.

Hawkeye got a lot of character development in this film making most people think that he was going to die, they said him up with a family and had him almost die at the start, and he considers himself a worthless member of the team. And in one of the final scenes he is set up to die and so I think they were just trying to make the characters more lovable.

You can’t leave an Avengers film without asking the question who was your favourite, and my opinion on this is that Captian America is the morals of the group and people tend to prefer him because he has the more gentlemen approach, Thor is the big built tank that has a lot more arrogance than Cap but is seen more as the hot guy. Hulk people like for the comedic value of how destructive he is or because Bruce Banner is a geek and “chicks dig that” Hawkeye is seen as the fast witty one, although he has no powers he is damn fast and very accurate with a bow his wit matches this speed with fast comebacks during banter, and Black Widow is sex appeal. Personally my favourite is Tony Stark because he gives the harshest funniest banter as well as having the most badass suit which I would very much like to own, i’d take the original or the Hulk Buster suit (Veronica) also I wouldn’t mind having Jarvis or Friday to help me with day to day life.

The film in general was amazing and i’m proud to give it a 10/10 because in my opinion they did everything I wanted them to do with it and I can’t see where they could have improved, that is entirely my opinion and i’m sure a critique somewhere will point out that their was a production error somewhere, but from me this is a perfect film which is definitely going on my top 10 near the top.

DareDevil

Time: 7:00pm

Type of Media: TV Show

Genre: superhero/action

Title: DareDevil

Duration: 100 mins

I watched this show today with my friend Ben off of my Netflix account. The shows first episode is very engaging with the viewer through using a very fast knife fight. It also introduces you to Karen and Nelson who you can tell are going to be the side characters that will assist him with trying to uncover the main villain kingpin or Wilson Fisk.

You get to witness Fisks decent into madness mainly because he starts off wanting to be this almost superhero like businessman but after meeting Vanessa he falls so madly in love that he becomes almost immune to rationality and starts killing people that threaten her and becomes incredibly violent towards people that didn’t do anything to hurt him like one of his bodyguards.

DareDevil was portrayed very well letting you see how he sees and hears his super sensitive hearing of things like heartbeats or motion allowing him to fight or tell if people are lying. The one thing I think marvel did poorly was his eyes, I think they kept his irises so you could feel his emotions better, but after having acid poored on his face I’d expect to see scars around his face or pupil damage to his eyes. I agree with giving him glasses but it means you still can’t see his emotions well.

The master was the character that also blind taught him how to use his hearing as a weapon and see it as a gift not a weakness. The master had a resemblance to splinter fromTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or a veteran that fought in Iraq. The guy is gritty and dangerous as well as working for a group of extremists very similar to Raz Al Ghul from batman. DareDevil got his sticks from the Master and we discover that when he was young he used to use them the to practice with.

The TV show has made the film look awful which is good because comic book fans and film enthusiasts both agreed that the film put shame to the marvel name through its inaccurate portrayal of the film and all around poor execution.

Overall I’d give the show a solid 8/10 and recommend it to any comic fans or people that enjoyed shows such as arrow or flash.

Vlogs

I have been writing this blog for about a month now and am enjoying it but have decided I am going to follow another medium of posting videos to YouTube and linking them on here as well as on my FB Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram page. I have already been told by 3 of my friends that if I started they would support it.

I am going to blog about everything that I post on here so Film, Music and Video games as well as doing my own thing talking about what happens in my life as well as talking about upcoming projects as well as posting them here, I will also be discussing things like cosplay conventions and stories that come from my nights out.

I am going to try and keep the vlogs focusing on what i’m doing in the form of media since i feel it will benefit my self confidence as well as assisting in my uni work, I also see it as providing an excellent portfolio.

Hangover 3

Time: 7:00pm

Type of Media: Film

Genre: Comedy

Title: Hangover part 3

Duration: 100 mins

I watched this film today at my Mums with my family. This film is the finale to their trilogy and was executed differently to the others because this one didn’t include a hangover, this one was made from the characters developed in the previous two films the main being Chow.

The film is based off of Chow messing with a drug king pin and since the only person Chow talks to is Allan the drug lord hunts them down and kidnaps Doug and makes the demand that they will find Chow and the gold (that he stole) and bring them to him. The character was friends with a character from the first film that accidentally sold Allan Roofies.

The jokes were funny and the practical humor was entertaining especially with an exceptional performance from Zach Galifianakis who said himself that he enjoys playing the role of an idiot that is arrogant. It included many weird scenes with him including one that was introduced through him meeting somebody just like him who he ends up marrying at the end. The way they became close was through sharing a lollipop which is the same weird humor we grew to expect from the films.

Bradley Cooper played the cool headed strong character that did most of the practical things like knocking down a wall or throwing burgers to the dogs as a distraction but his character flaw was that even though he is cool at times he can be a dick.

Ed Helms played the dentist that panics and freaks out a lot but tries to bring the intellect to the group his character is less comedic but he is supposed to be the character that brings everyone else down to a sane level so that the film doesn’t get to messed up.

Senor Chang who plays Chow plays the part of a psychotic very well, he does what he wants which usually gets the group into problems as well as him doing things to piss Marshall off (drug king pin) like stealing the other half of the gold as well as snapping the neck of his guard dogs. On top of that he uses the main three to steal the gold for him he then leaves them behind.

overall i’d say the film isn’t recommended if you want a fancy story or a good piece of film media but if you’re looking for a film that will be entertaining and you can just sit down and enjoy it’s recommended, overall i’d give it a 6/10

Resident Evil 6

Time: 9:00pm

Type of Media: Video Game

Genre: Action/horror

Title: Resident Evil 6

Duration: NA

I played this game today on my own at my mums. The game itself was done greatly, you get 3 campaigns and one hidden one. It includes great features of horror/survival as well as bad-ass action sequences which you’d expect from Capcom, it also has what you’d expect from Resident Evil which is slimy disfigured monsters.

Leon is a signature character in the resident evil universe and was always known as more of a horror character so his campaign focuses on the scary side as opposed to Chris’s which is action, Jake’s is a mix of them both and is a character we have been waiting very long to see since he is the son of a main villain (Albert Wesker).

I played Leon’s campaign and am enjoying it so far, it has a great control scheme which means you always feel entirely in control of your character as well as gripping interactive cut scenes which make you engaged in the game all the time. It introduced the character Ada Wong in chapter 2 as a bad-ass character which you will get to play as later, her and Leon have an excellent chemistry  which made me enjoy the game more because it was far more believable and engaging.

With the enemy characters I enjoy the way that every special infected you can shoot to death which will take up a lot of ammo or you can kill them in a specific way which is the weakness of them, for example a whooper is a huge fat zombie and it’s weakness is it’s weight so if you shoot it’s legs it’s far easier to kill or a screacher you can shoot in the throat when it’s about to scream and it will die quickly.

The boss battles are very engaging and is done in a sequence so it’s not a case of just being a tough enemy but their is a lot of scenery changing and interactive parts as well as consequences, for example Helena’s sister is a boss where at the end she is about to kill Helena and if you aren’t fast enough to kill her then Helena will die consequence of which being a game over.

The game focuses heavily on the co-operative styled gameplay, sometimes you have to rely on your partner and in order to go through certain doors or climb certain obstacles you have to work as a team meaning that if the game is played with two people it is far more enjoyable. The AI is done well so generally your partner will help you, but if you have another player it’s far easier to function more as a team because they get to choose what weapons to use and you can use strategy, I use my friend Ben a lot to be my co-op partner since he is local and enjoys gaming.
